Spam and SPF

A measure to fight spam that is gaining support in the web community is Sender Policy Framework. This is a simple approach to validate the ‘from address’ in emails.[1] On the receiving side SPF checks that the sender is from the domain they are claiming to be. Similarly SPF allows other servers to check the mail sent from the source server.[2] Spammers that are legitimate subscribers or owners of a domain can still send spam but it will be easier to trace them.
