ICT Projects for Rural Deveopment & E-gov initiatives

Avichal I would just like to state my interest in these 2 topics. I am looking into both of them right now. One resource I would point out to others is the reading list for Dec 9th lecture on 'North-south issues & globalization' & Aspray Chapter 9 (The Digital Divide).

I will be researching more to flesh out a possible structure for the project. If anyone else is interested please post here.

[RLM] I'm broadly interested in IT and Development issues. The Open Source idea sounds interesting. Also interested in how policies from WIPO, the IP arm of WTO, are implemented in "developing" nations.

Interested in this topic

I'm interested in this topic too, specificially prospects for bringing IT to Africa. How exactly are groups going to be picked?

Martha Prempeh

I am interested in these topics as well, especially with the effects of bringing wireless telecom to developing nations in Africa. I don't know much knowledge on the issues, but they certainly seem worthwhile to explore. What, if any, are your areas of interest? Perhaps we can form a group. -- Kevin Watt

Re-iterate My Interest in Forming a Group

I just wanted to check in with others who are interested in North-South Issues. I very open to working on any of the topics listed as well as those mentioned in here. Though I do not have a specific geographical area of expertise, I personally am interested in exploring IT issues as it pertains to the South/Developing Nations/Third World/etc ["South"].

In trying to get some discussion: Avichal, how's the research going? I have not finished reading the Aspray chapter on the digital divide, though I am familiar with how it is characterized within the US. External to the US, I typically hear IT, when spoken about in relation to the South, negatively characterized as extending the gap between the haves and the have-nots.
