I am Jesse Ruderman, a first-year Ph.D. student at UCSD. I am taking the policy class for full credit. I blog. I contribute to Firefox.
Resume:
- Blackhat (1996-1999). I found a small hole in DALnet IRCD, wrote a somewhat successful and mIRC worm, and invented a "man in the middle" spoofing attack for IRC private messages (especially between members of sex channels).
- Whitehat (2000-2004). Found over 50 security bugs in Mozilla/Firefox. While I use IRC less than I did during my blackhat years, I am still a loser.
My policy-related interests include open-source, software security (especially in user interfaces), and economics. A project I am interested in will probably coincide with at least one of my broad interests. Here's a copy of the Project_Teams list, with the projects I find most interesting at the top.
- 8 Student_Projects:OpenSource_Motivation (UW and Berkeley; recruiting)
- 7 Student_Projects:Most_Secure_Platform (All Seattle)
- 7 Student_Projects:Cyber_Insecurity (All UCSD)
- 6 Student_Projects:Commercial_Software_Open_Source (All UW)
- 6 Porn
- 5 Student_Projects:Encryption_Use
- 5 Student_Projects:IT_Outsourcing
- 5 Student_Projects:Outsourcing_PPF
- 5 Student_Projects:Software_Commodification
- 5 Student_Projects:Privacy_Internet
- 4 Electronic Voting
- 4 Blogs, Media, and Politics
- 4 Student_Projects:DMCA
- 3 Student_Projects:Database_Protection
- 2 Student_Projects:Does_IT_Matter
- 1 Student_Projects:IT_Abroad_EastAsia
