--[[User:Aterry|Aterry]] 12:39, 16 Nov 2004 (PST) How are everyone's sections going?  I have pretty much written the history section, but am working now on adding some more current material such as maybe some Al Qaida stuff like was mentioned in our feedback.  We can then refer to that material in our analysis and hopefully relate some policy too.  It looks like Josh has written most of his section and posted it.  I will post something soon too.  I think we should all try to read up some more on policy (in a real library :) )and John and Steven can work on writing that section up so that we can move on to the analysis some time soon.

References

--Jopos 00:17, 29 Oct 2004 (PDT) - Here are some references so that we can start researching the historical and political aspects of Encryption. They are organized by topic, but some references contain information about all of the aspects of encryption history.

Tentative Paper Outline

--Aterry: Here is a tentative outline for the project along with how we had discussed assigning the sections. John, let us know how you feel about this and where you would like to help. We figured that we'd write the other sections first, then come together and do analysis together after we research the background some more. Feel free to modify/add to this outline with other ideas. Josh, Steve, I'm sure I didn't remember everthing on here that we talked about on Saturday. I also put this on our front page under the project description where we can keep track of the "official" outline. Here we can discuss it if we need to.

  • Intro
    • Similar to project description on front page
  • Background on Encryption (Josh)
    • Basic encryption concepts
    • Terms and vocab used throughout the paper
  • Historical Incidents (Andrew)
    • How has encryption been (mis)used in the past
  • Encryption Policy (Steven & John)
    • Government regulations and policies
  • Analysis (All)
    • How policy has played a role in encryption events and looking forward what should be done
  • Conclusion

Open Issues

--Jopos 20:44, 1 Nov 2004 (PST) Hey guys, I think this section might be useful to discuss any open issues or ideas that we may have. After all, this is a discussion page. Feel free to post questions and comments about the project so that we can all benefit from it.

--Jopos 20:52, 1 Nov 2004 (PST) John, As you have already seen by our preliminary paper outline, we have already deligated specific sections. However, I think that the Encryption Policy section which Steve will be working on is quite a large topic, since there are many government policies that affect encryption(I already made the changes on the paper outline). So i think that it would be beneficial and put less of a burden on Steve if you two were to break that section into sub-sections. Then we can all collaborate on the Analysis section as we originally planned.

--Jopos 22:55, 7 Nov 2004 (PST) Guys, I created a project summary page that you can find under the "Wiki Pages" link on our main project page. Take a look, and let me know what you think. I noticed that John created a page as well, however i think that we may need a little more information than what he posted. Post or send me any comments so that we can turn this summary in.

--Aterry 23:07, 7 Nov 2004 (PST) Josh, I checked out the page you made and it looks good to me. I think what we have there is good enough to mail to Tap for the assignment. Once everyone looks at it and OKs it, we can e-mail him tomorrow.

--Jopos 11:22, 8 Nov 2004 (PST) Made a couple more changes to the project description. Take a look Encryption_Project_Description. Changes are in bold.

--Jopos 11:39, 8 Nov 2004 (PST) I changed the layout of the paper outline page a little. It still has the same content, but i think it looks nicer now.

--Aterry 12:39, 16 Nov 2004 (PST) How are everyone's sections going? I have pretty much written the history section, but am working now on adding some more current material such as maybe some Al Qaida stuff like was mentioned in our feedback.
