We barely touched on the topic of database legislation and database protection -- Steve covered it just a bit in the first lecture, and there are two references there, but there is a huge amount of interesting discussion available. The whole question of how to increase the accessibility of scientific data is a great one lying squarely at the interface of technology and policy.

A good place to look is the USACM web: USACM (http://www.acm.org/usacm/).

That website has nice resources on topics such as:

Copyright/IP

Internet Governance

Privacy/Encryption/IDs

Database protection and access to scientific information
